To a Great Year!

The school bells have rung and students are bustling down hallways once again! I’ve been meeting with both partner schools and there is an excitement to this year we haven’t seen in a while. Teachers and staff feel empowered to try big things with students due to our strong partnerships. There’s a new confidence behind the frequently stated, “It’s going to be a great year.”

With the amazing help of CarMax volunteers over the summer, the backstage of John Rolfe Middle School is clear of old, dilapidated props, and the drama director is inspired to put on a production of The Wiz this spring. The dedicated music director continues to build a love of music in students. And in our new collaboration with the JRMS PTA, students will have access to artistic resources to enter original artwork in the annual Virginia PTA Reflections contest.

At Falling Creek Middle School, students will have new opportunities with the addition of a life skills club introducing cooking and cosmetology while others continue to focus on STEM skills with the First LEGO League. With renewed interest and support in the arts, the drama club will stage a comeback this year. And cheerleaders in new uniforms will be on the sidelines rallying the fans watching the soccer team with new soccer balls, socks, and pinnies.

Both schools are seeing a resurgence in positive energy. With community support, teachers and staff have a positive outlook on the school year. And that transcends to students believing they can participate on the team, showcase their artwork, and perform on stage. The sky’s the limit for our students and I can’t wait to see how far they soar this year!
