Volunteering with Start 1 Spark gives Brett a collaborative and community-focused forum to use his skills, experience, and relationships to empower others to succeed. Reducing the barriers to participation for middle schoolers in Start 1 Spark's schools helps them, their families, our communities and Virginia - all people and places Brett cares deeply about!

Vishal Gandhi, Secretary

A Virginia Tech alumnus, Vishal embraces the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) and is a firm believer of the mission of Start 1 Spark. Vishal is eager to contribute to the organization’s growth and impact.

Keith Enslow, Treasurer

Favorite Extracurricular: Football
Keith loves the idea of giving those in need the opportunity to participate in something they are passionate about and having the right equipment to do so. What excites him about Start 1 Spark is the kids that benefit from what the organization is providing will have a more level playing field and confidence to take that step to get involved. This is an absolute game changer for kids, one that really makes his heart full.

Kate Hundley, Director

Favorite Extracurricular: Theatre
Kate graduated from Longwood University with a bachelors in Elementary and Middle Education with a concentration in English, and with her Masters in Reading, Literacy, and Learning. She has worked the past seven years at Falling Creek Middle School, where she collaborated with Start 1 Spark to rebuild the school’s theatre department. Now serving at the division level as the new Secondary Literacy Intervention Support Specialist she is excited to join the Start 1 Spark team to remove barriers and ensure success and joy for all students.

Amber Lancaster, Executive Director

Favorite Extracurricular: Dance
As a life-long volunteer, Amber believes in the power of community and civic engagement to uplift and enhance the lives of those around her. Amber’s passion for youth development guides her work of building relationships with local businesses, organizations, and individuals to increase access to enriching school activities for disadvantaged youth.
